Why Choose Boen?Boen provides a wide range of environmentally-friendly products based on a vast experience in manufacturing hardwood flooring.Boen Bruk AS started manufacturing mosaic and solid wood flooring in 1953, progressing to multi-layer prefinished hardwood flooring in 1966. The knowledge we acquired during those many years, is drawn on today when manufacturing our multi-layered hardwood flooring which comes in a range of thicknesses from 10-23mm. Boen's wood specialists and engineers have a vast knowledge of the effect the climate has on wood. This important factor has played a significant role in our choice of technology and techniques. Boen have themselves developed and built many of the principal machines used in the production process. Boen's standards are on average considerably higher than those which are generally practiced in the production of parquet. Product Stability and Precision Wood continually expands and contracts in accordance with changes in humidity. Many attempts have been made to hinder the movement of the hardwood strips, but none have been totally successful. The thicker and wider the staves are, the greater the variation experienced. Comparison tests show that Boen multi layer hardwood flooring has very little convex and concave movement. This is due to a combination of narrow strips, correct composition of the blocking layer, a very good adhesion process and continuous follow-up based on Boen's Quality Control System. Connex process - Advanced Method of Planning In contrast to other manufacturers of multi-layer hardwood flooring, we mill the tongue and groove after varnishing. The edges of the board are then sharp and the floor when laid does not have any visible joins. Boen was the first on the market with such a product and is able to deliver a product that is top in its class in the world's parquet market. Unique Tongue and Groove Connection Our patented sports' floor BOFLEX has an unique tongue and groove connection that withstands decades of wear. Boen's product development department has incorporated this knowledge into its standard multi-layer hardwood flooring products. Such tiny details provide a dramatic improvement to installation and connection between tongue and groove. Lacquered Floors - Boen Protect Ultra Boen's ready varnished multi-layer hardwood flooring is coated with 6 layers:
The result is an even, smooth and easy-care surface. Lacquer must incorporate a number of properties to enable the ready laid floor to function well:
Boen Ecoline (Pre-oiled) Boen's pre-oiled parquet is treated with 2 coats of oil which are brushed and polished into the wood. Excess oil is then removed and finally the oil is dried and tempered with the help of 6 UV lamps. The oil does not contain dangerous gasses and satisfies all the requirements for oiled surface treatment in accordance with European standards. Ecoline Oil is revolutionary within pre-oiling since it does not require additional treatment when the floor is laid in a room exposed to normal wear. A Wide Range of Products Boen offers a wide variety of wood types in several grades, patterns and thicknesses either with pre-lacquered or pre-oiled surfaces. Patterns: Long strip, plank, ships plank in wide and narrow boards, double and single herringbone, basket weave combined with boards and decorative squares. Thicknesses: 10, 12, 15, 21, or 23mm. Products with a 6mm hardwood layer are: Traffic, Strongline. Boen Ultra Care and Maintenance Products The Boen Ultra series contains a complete range of products for care and maintenance of hardwood flooring. Boen hardwood flooring lends its name with a clear conscience, to this series which comprises the best on the market today. Top

History of BoenAbout People, Growth and DevelopmentThe history of Boen is a story of people, loyal and hard-working people, with real drive and a love of nature. It dates back to the 17th century. As early as 1641, there were two saw mills in operation at the Boen waterfall on the Topdals River near Kristiansand, in the south of Norway. For over 350 years the people at Boen have manufactured timber and in all those years quality has remained the essential point behind all their labours. History of Invention and Innovation From sawmill to hardwood flooring factory. Over the centuries the people at Boen went forward, finding the best solutions, making the best products. At the turn of the centuries, one basic principle has remained at the core of Boen's culture and history; respect for nature's resources. The raw materials have always been and remain the key to Boen's existence. Out Into the World During the 1970s Boen began exporting their production concept and one of the factories built was Th. Höhns KG GmbH, in Germany. The owners of Boen took over this company in 1976. The acquisition was strategically important for a number of reasons. Together, Boen and Höhns were able to establish one of the most modern production lines for multi-layer hardwood flooring in Europe. In addition, Höhns had a central location in relation to important harbours for shipping overseas and was close to the main markets of Europe - this made the logistic easy and opened the world for Boen. Boen was introduced in the Netherlands in 1967 and export from Norway and Germany has played an important part of the business and the introduction of Boen in United States at the beginning of the 1980s and Höhns in France and Spain were important moves. The acquisition of Dominga Mill in Lithuania in 1998 allowed Boen to develop its production operations in an increasingly challenging market. Dominga is recognised as a quality saw mill and manufacturer with advanced production lines and highly qualified employees. Boen Has Become an International Player The increased international operation has necessitated the change to an even more streamlined service. In 2003 the Boen Group decided to bring all marketing activities under one brand name - Boen. The Boen Group is constantly strengthening its position. In addition to production sites in Russia, Lithuania, Norway and Germany, Boen has sales offices in Norway, Germany, Austria, UK, France, Italy, Denmark, Sweden, Belgium, Hong Kong and USA. Top

The remaining 30% can come from FSC Controlled wood area which means that the main requirements and laws are followed when operating in a forest. It can neither accept gene modified- nor plantage wood. An FSC CoC (chain of custody) certified company has to keep account of the origin of the wood and be able to trace the flow of the products. Today, more than 70% of the oak used at Boen is FSC certified. The 5-layer plywood used for the underlayer of Prestige is a minimum 50% FSC certified. SmartWood is a programme of the Rainforest Alliance, which has been accredited by the FSC (Forest Stewardship Council). This programme sets rigorous standards for procurers, manufacturers and landowners to enforce sustainable management of the world’s forests. The certification is checked during annual on-site audits. Certified Wood Species and Products On demand, a limited amount of volumes of the following products can be delivered with FSC Mixed Sources certification:
In addition, Boen can deliver 3-layer products in Maple where 50% of the total quantity comes from SFIS certified forests. The Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI) is a certification system developed by foresters, conservationists and scientists to provide long-term protection of wildlife, plants, soil and water quality. All wood species used at Boen have been taken from the forests legally, but many of them are not yet traceable and do not comply with the requirements of FSC. The Boen Group keeps on working to get more documentation about the origin and chain of custody of the wood. There is no more emotive "green" issue than the use of timber Boen flooring is a product of nature. As a procurer of timber Boen has an important heritage to maintain. Constant involvement in resource preservation methods, participation in reforestation programmes and the development of alternative products to the exotic wood species, show Boen's consciousness towards the environment.
