Floor Care & Maintenance
If the floor is well taken care of, it will remain beautiful for decades!
To keep your floor looking as good as the day you bought it, we recommend starting a regular system of maintenance from day one. How often you maintain
your floor will depend on how you use and treat it.
A Boen floor, whether treated with lacquer or oil, has a surface which protects the floor from damage. Over time, this surface will wear down and must be replaced on a
regular basis.
Ambient Climate
Both you and your BOEN floor will benefit from a healthy ambient climate. A room temperature of 20 to 22 degrees Celsius and relative humidity of about 50 to 65 % will
provide ideal conditions for you and your floor. It goes without saying that rooms should not just be heated but also regularly aired. Especially in new buildings it
is possible that residual damp from walls and floors make it necessary to use de-humidifiers.
Cleaning
For normal domestic cleaning all you need is a mop, a brush or a vacuum cleaner. You should avoid soaking the floor because the wood could swell and become damaged.
Lacquered Floors
It is important to note that floors treated on a regular basis using a polish, "maintainer", "gloss-builder" or similar, must be sanded back to bare wood prior to the
application of further coats of lacquer.
For Matt lacquered floors use a matt polish, e.g. Bona Naturale rather than a refresher as the floor would eventually become shiny.
Recommendations on the frequency of cleaning and care for lacquered floors:
- Moderate domestic use (bedrooms and living rooms): as required, every six months
- Average to heavy use (stairs, corridors, offices with public access): every two weeks
- Heavy use (restaurants, department stores, barracks, schools): every week
Oiled Floors
Dependent upon degree of usage, the hardwood flooring is subject to natural wear and tear. Signs of usage on the surface are unavoidable after a time, even in the case
of hard wood and high-quality sealing. For this reason, we recommend preventative measures and regular care - as a matter of course.
Oil-finished BOEN hardwood flooring improves in looks with every cleaning and maintenance undertaken. With time, a natural, colourfully charming patina develops.
Recommendations on the frequency of cleaning and care for oiled floors:
- Moderate domestic use (bedrooms and living rooms): every six to ten weeks
- Average to heavy use (stairs, corridors, offices with public access): every two to four weeks
- Heavy use (restaurants, department stores, barracks, schools): every week.
